bruichladdich-the-classic-laddie-scottish-barley-unpeated-single-malt-scotch-whisky
Bruichladdich's signature style is characterized as unpeated, fruity, floral, and elegant. The brand's Port Charlotte Scottish Barley (200ml, 50% ABV) is a heavily peated single malt that exhibits smoky sweetness with full depth and complexity. Bruichladdich challenges the notion that labeling a whisky as "Islay" equates to a specific taste profile because the truth is much more intricate and fascinating. The distillery was built in 1881 during a time when puffer-supplied coal was a readily available alternative fuel to local peat. Therefore, it is believed that Bruichladdich was intentionally designed to produce the purest unpeated spirit possible. In fact, the great Alfred Barnard describes the Laddie as the only distillery on Islay that he does not identify as drying its malt using peat in his intriguing exploration of the island's distilleries in 1885.
