Fortaleza, also known as Los Abuelos outside the US, is a leading producer of top-quality tequila. The distillery is situated in the picturesque town of Tequila, located in the Jalisco region of Mexico.
Fortaleza Reposado Tequila is crafted using traditional techniques that have been perfected over the past 125 years in Mexico. This exquisite tequila is made from 100% blue agave, which is hand-harvested and aged for a minimum of 8 years before being carefully processed.
The agave fruits are roasted in brick ovens for 3 days and then mashed using a 2-ton tahona wheel made of volcanic rock. The resulting mash is fermented in open-air wooden tanks for 3.5 days before being double-distilled in copper pots.
The tequila is delicately spicy and is aged for at least 7 months in re-chipped/re-charred American oak ex-bourbon barrels. It is bottled at 40% ABV in hand-blown glass bottles that are filled onsite at the Fortaleza distillery.
The nose of Fortaleza Reposado tequila is thick with agave, herbs, and citrus caramel candies, while on the palate, one can taste notes of vanilla, earth, agave, and splashes of citrus. Overall, Fortaleza Reposado tequila is a premium product that embodies the true spirit of traditional Mexican tequila-making.
