Mezcal Lajita, produced by the renowned Licores Veracruz in Oaxaca, Mexico, is a classic smoky and earthy Mezcal. This 100% agave Mezcal is triple distilled and aged in oak casks for over five months to achieve a rested taste and quality. To ensure the highest quality, each bottle contains a single agave worm, a traditional guarantee in Mezcal production. Mezcal Lajita was awarded the coveted title of 'Best Mezcal in the USA Market' in 1997, a testament to the founder Don Jose Villanueva's lifelong dedication to developing the smoothest tasting spirits possible. The process of making Mezcal remains true to the traditions used by the Spanish Conquistadors in the XVI century, consisting of five steps: plant cultivation, cooking in a lined covered hole in the ground or clay oven, pounding, fermenting, and distilling. While most domestic Mezcal is distilled twice, Mezcal Lajita is distilled three times to eliminate any impurities, especially methanol and excess copper, which can be commonly found in some Mezcal. Finally, the Mezcal is left to mature for a minimum of three months to over a year before being bottled.
