Established in 1825 by brothers Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill, the Talisker distillery struggled to find success in its early days. However, in 1880, Roderick Kemp and Alexander Allen purchased the distillery and turned its fortunes around, eventually leading to its acquisition by Diageo. In 1998, Talisker was named a founding member of the Classic Malts Selection of Diageo, expanding its range to include 57°North, Storm, Dark Storm, and Port Ruighe. Today, Talisker is one of Diageo's most important single malt brands. The Distillers Edition Double Matured Amoroso Sherry Cask Wood Single Malt undergoes a second maturation period in a separate cask, in this case, an Amoroso Sherry cask. This process results in an older, sweeter, and richer spirit than Talisker's regular bottlings, with a unique bitter-sweet character.
